ROMANIA: Modern retail new openings in April | Progresiv
If in March a single retailer continued its expansion in Romania, that being Profi, in April the expansion was continued by four international retail chains: Profi, Mega Image, Lidl and Kaufland. In total, retailers opened 22 locations in April. Last year, in April, only 16 stores were opened in modern retail.
Profi - now owned by Mid Europa Partners investments fund - remains the retailer with the fastest expansion. It inaugurated a total of 15 stores in April. Of these, nine are operated under the banner Loco, three stores are Standard and three other stores are in City format. The Profi chain has thus reached a total of 551 stores nationwide.
Lidl continued its expansion in April, the German retailer opening a total of 5 stores, including a new location in Iasi and one in Focsani. In total, the German chain has reached 211 stores in Romania.
April also marked Mega Image entry in a new city, Cluj-Napoca, where the retailer opened the first location in the Platinia shopping center. It currently has a chain of 534 stores.
The German chain Kaufland also expanded in April by opening its second store in Brasov, this being the only hypermarket opening in April.
