ROMANIA: Food, beverages and tobacco sales, slightly up in Q1 | Progresiv
Food, beverages and tobacco trade increased slightly in the first quarter of this year, marking an advance of 1.6% on gross sales basis and an increase of 2.9% depending on the number of working days and seasonality, as compared to the first three months of 2016 - according to Romanian National Institute of Statistics (INS). 
A slight increase was also seen in the evolution of sales of food, beverages and tobacco in March compared to the same month last year: an advance of 2.8% as gross series and of 2.4% as seasonally adjusted series.
Compared to February this year, sales of food, beverages and tobacco increased in March by 10% as gross series, but in terms of number of working days and seasonality, food, beverages and tobacco trade remained at the same level as the previous month.
Overall, retail trade, excluding car sales, increased in the first three months of the year compared with the same period of 2016 by 6.9% as gross series and by 7.4% as adjusted series.
