Dia plans to close 219 stores in June | Progresiv
The supermarket chain Dia plans to close 219 stores in this month of June, having not finally received purchase offers from the companies that were initially interested in acquiring the stores.
This has been assured by Dia's lawyer during the trial that took place at the National Court for the request of CCOO to annul the ERE proposed by Dia and that affects 1,604 workers, Europa Press reports.
In mid-March it was known that several companies had expressed interest in the stores that Dia had put up for sale. These are companies in the distribution sector, both Spanish and foreign.
The chain of supermarkets, which is going through the most serious crisis in its history and has just raffled off the pre-contest of creditors, is one of the distribution groups with more stores operating, almost half of them under the franchise formula. The chain already announced the sale of these more than 200 establishments. They are the least profitable spaces.
The objective of the group's management (which was recently renewed after winning the bid of Letterone, a fund owned by Russian investor Mikhail Fridman), is precisely to focus now on stores and formats that are more profitable, such as Dia & Go or La Plaza de Day, and go closing those that are not.
This plan for the transformation and modernization of the commercial park will be executed within five years, although the new management team (with Stephane DuCharme and Franz Heinz Holland at the helm) has already warned that the results will not be seen even within a couple of years. years.
According to the aforementioned agency, although it has not completed the purchase of any of the establishments, there is still interest from different operators in the 30 stores that remain after the closing of 219 in June. (www.tellerreport.com)
