What product brought Romania the gold medal at an innovation contest at SIAL | Progresiv
Romania won the gold medal at Ecotrophelia, an innovation contest held at the SIAL Paris 2018 food fair, with a product developed in the laboratory of the Faculty of Food Science within the Lower Danube State University Galati: it is about Whoopie Ice, an eco ice cream prepared from concentrate whey and quince and plum pulp. Whey is a source of quality protein with high nutritional value, while plums and quinces are designed to soften the ice cream with a minimal amount of sugar and, in addition, they are rich in vitamins, antioxidants and fiber.
Whoopie Ice is for the moment at the product-concept stage, and is not available on the market. At very low temperatures, it may have a long life: one year at -20 degrees Celsius.
Ecotrophelia Europe is a laboratory of innovations in the food industry, held at SIAL Paris, which brings together every edition of concept-products developed in Research & Development centers of renowned universities in Europe. 17 products from countries such as Germany, Denmark, Italy, or Spain were enrolled in this year's edition.
