Waitrose launches first UK trial of in-home delivery | Progresiv
John Lewis-owned supermarket chain Waitrose is to offer a grocery delivery service where couriers will access shopper homes and leave orders securely. The project uses smart lock technology from Yale to allow shoppers to set an access code for their smart door lock, which drivers will use to access the property. The code is deleted once the delivery is made. The initial trial will involve 100 homes in London and will begin later this month.
In-home deliveries are being trialled across several geographies, with Amazon one of the most enthusiastic proponents of the method. For the etailer, it is very much a part of its connected homes initiative. Walmart has also made tentative moves in the field, while Sweden’s ICA was experimenting with this method as far back as 2016. (www.kantarretailiq.com)
