ROMANIA: Lidl wants five more stores by the end of this year | Progresiv
German discounter Lidl plans to open five stores by the end of 2018. Since the beginning of the year, the retailer has opened 12 commercial units, reaching 230 stores nationwide.
"Our goal is to continue expanding at the same rate as before, which means around 15 stores a year. We are present in all the counties of the country and we will expand both in the cities where we have stores, but also in other urban areas where we are not present. We also have under construction our fifth logistics warehouse, in Roman", said Cristina Hanganu, Head of Communication and CSR Lidl Romania.
In addition, Lidl continues the Romanian culinary support project, inaugurating the Hidden Dishes Museum, a temporary gastronomic exhibition that aims to conserve culinary traditions through authentic Romanian recipes. The Hidden Dishes Museum brings together recipes for specific dishes from different areas of Romania, discovered by Lidl in an attempt to identify a new product to reach its stores under Camara Noastra brand.
Lidl operates 230 stores on the local market. The retailer marked a 17% advance of business last year compared to 2016, to 6.51 billion lei. Profit also recorded an advance of up to 352.7 million lei, compared to the result of 2016, of 217.7 million lei. This year, the company's representatives said the target is to have growth above the market average.
