ROMANIA: Consumers’ expectations rise, but the willingness to spend declines - GfK | Progresiv
Romania’s economic growth of recent times has had a positive effect on citizens' expectations regarding revenues. In September, this indicator rose by just 2.8 points to 21.3 points compared to June. However, in the context of comparison with the same month of last year, the increase is relatively large, namely 16 points, according to the GfK Consumer Climate Europe quarterly survey.
Despite this, revenues are usually sufficient only to cover everyday needs. Consequently, the desire to spend in Romania remains low. With -6.4 points, it continues to be in the negative range, although an increase of 5.1 points was registered compared to June.
In the second quarter of 2015, GDP registered a 3.3 percent higher value than that recorded in the same period last year. Although economic forecasts in the third quarter dropped by 2.8 points to its current level of 18.5 points compared with the same month last year, there was a significant increase of almost 15 points.
The conclusions of GfK Consumer Climate Europe are taken from a consumer survey conducted on behalf of the European Commission in all EU countries. Approximately 40,000 people participate in the monthly survey in 28 countries. These are representative of the adult population of the European Union.
