ROMANIA: Almost 84% of Romanians buy from supermarkets, hypermarkets, cash&carry and discount stores | Progresiv
Supermarkets, hypermarkets and discounters are the favorite places for shopping in the case of 83.6% of Romanians. A smaller percentage, 65.2% of Romanians, also shop from neighbourhood stores, and 45.2% from food markets, according to a study conducted by INSCOP on the request of the Large Retailers in Romania Association (AMRCR). 
The study was conducted between August 27-September 7 2015 and uses the term "supermarket" as a generic term for large stores, regardless of their structure (hypermarkets, cash & carry, supermarkets, discount stores).
The price continues to be the most important element in choosing the shopping destination (75.2%), while for a significant percentage, 65.1% of Romanians, the main criteria is the quality of products, while for 58% the distance from home is a decisive factor.
Most respondents (64.9%) believe that supermakets helps save time, while 22.8% of them believe that they impoverish them, while 12.3% of the Romanians did not respond or did not know.
According to the survey, the majority of Romanians (71.5%) believe that supermarkets are selling cheaper products than small stores and markets and 84.1% say that supermarkets have more products at low prices than other stores.
