POLAND: Intermarche plans massive expansion by 2020 | Progresiv
Intermarche has announced plans to open 500 new stores in Poland by 2020 and implement a new store concept. During 2015 the retailer plans to open 15 Intermarche and 17 Bricomarche stores. The new format emphasizes fresh and on the go food, bio products and wine assortment.
The new store layout features a dedicated pastry and bakery, sausages and meats from its own smokehouse, the fresh department resembling a market. The retailer trialed the new format in four stores in Poznan, Zielona Gora, Kluczbork and Miedzychod. The new concept improved sales by 5.2%.
In October 2015 the format will be implemented in four additional stores in Oborni Weilkopolski, Srem, Turku and Brzesk. In September 2015 the retailer launched its first drive in Poznan, Poland. The assortment consists of 7,500 SKUs. The drive concept will be expanded to stores in Srem and Swidnica in October 2015.
