Nestlé to close the Timisoara factory, moving production to Hungary | Progresiv
Swiss giant Nestlé, one of the most important players in the Romanian consumer goods industry, announced that it will close the production unit in Timisoara, the only factory it holds locally, the decision affecting 388 employees, confirmed company representatives for Progresiv. 
In the Timisoara factory were produced the Joe wafers. As a result of this decision, the production will be moved to Hungary, and the factory will be closed by the end of May.
"The closure of the Timisoara production unit is an extremely difficult decision, taken after thorough analysis and after all alternatives have been implemented. Nestlé operates locally on a market that is experiencing a period of rapid change, characterized by new patterns consumption and labor shortages in a competitive environment. We analyze all options to provide the necessary support to our colleagues Our priority is to alleviate this change in relation to our employees", said Leszek Wacirz, Country Manager Nestlé Romania.
The 30 people employed at Nestlé Regional Cost Competence Center in Timisoara - Nestlé's financial services center - are not affected by this decision and will continue to operate in a new location in the city center.
The Timisoara factory was acquired by Nestlé in 2000 and has an annual production of over 10,000 tons of sweets and coffee.
Nestlé entered the Romanian market in 1995 and became one of the most important players on the food and beverages market. Nestlé's portfolio includes a wide range of products from various categories: beverages (NESCAFÉ, Nesquik), sweets (JOE, Nesquik, Kit Kat, Lion, After Eight, Smarties), culinary products (Maggi), baby food (Nestlé Infant Nutrition ), Nestlé Professional - out of home solutions division, breakfast bars and cereals (Nestlé Fitness, Musli, Nesquik, Chocapic etc.) and pet food (Purina).
Nestlé, the largest food and beverages company in the world, reported an organic growth of 2.4% in 2017 globally. In Eastern Europe, the advance was 5-6%, Nestlé Romania being one of the top performers of the region, with a turnover of 820 million lei (+ 5%) and a net profit of 88 million lei, according to data provided by the Ministry of Finance.
