MOLDOVA: Kaufland to enter Moldova | Progresiv
German retailer Kaufland is expected to announce its entry in the Republic of Moldova, according to the press in this country. Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca announced during the town hall meeting that a German retailer will open several stores in Chisinau. 
The mayor did not want to provide more details, stating that the official announcement will be made by representatives of the international chain during a job fair held on October 2nd.
In April this year, Dorin Chirtoaca met with Marco Hössl, CEO of Kaufland Romania, and discussed the possibility of attracting investment as the company’s representatives expressed their intetion to open one or more Kaufland stores in Chisinau. Marco Hössl said that after this visit to Chisinau he would make a presentation to Kaufland’s Board of Directors.
Kaufland, part of German group Schwarz, is among the largest retail companies in Europe with over 1,100 stores in seven countries (Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania).
In Romania, the German company has 103 hypermarkets and is the leader of the retail market. In 2014, Kaufland Romania reported a turnover of 8 billion lei, up by 10% compared to the previous year.
