MHP Ukranian group wants to take over Perutnina cold cuts producer | Progresiv
MHP Group, one of the biggest players in the poultry meat industry in Ukraine, announced its intention to take over the Slovenian company Perutnina Ptuj, the producer of Perutnina and Pepe cold cuts, also distributed on the Romanian market for about 10 years. Russian group SIJ, the current majority shareholder of the Slovenian company, has been following the exit of this business for several years to concentrate on its core business: the production of steel industrial materials. The group entered Perutnina Ptuj's shareholding in December 2015, and last year it increased its stake to about 90%.
Perutnina Ptuj currently has approximately 3,600 employees and operates as an integrated production holding, having its own poultry breeders and their own mills for feeding poultry, in addition to meat processing facilities. The company is the former Avicola Yugoslavia and has a history of 110 years on the Slovenian market. In 2017 it reported sales of about 250 million euros.
"The cooperation between MHP and Perutnina Ptuj will bring direct benefits to the employees of the two companies, the partner farmers, and will have a positive impact on the poultry meat industry in the Balkans," the Ukrainian group said.
Outside its home market, MHP currently has meat processing units in Slovakia and the Netherlands and a commercial office in the MENA region (Middle East and Africa). About 60% of sales are made locally, with the remaining 40% being generated by distribution in around 60 countries globally.
