ITALY: Amazon starts online food sales in Italy | Progresiv
Online retailer Amazon has started selling long-life food and care products to customers in Italy. Over 20,000 products are currently available, including those from leading brands such as Barilla, Valfrutta, Knorr, Rio Mare, San Benedetto, Mulino Bianco, Plasmon, Mellin, Huggies, Chanteclair, Dash, Scottex and Cuki.
Amazon Prime customers can choose one of the available delivery options, including unlimited free shipping of products for daily use at home in 24 hours, available in over 6,000 municipalities, or the Evenings Shipping Service that allows to receive same day products, currently available in the Milan area only.
With the goal of upgrading the service, Amazon has invited independent Italian food producers and retailers to offer their products online to customers not only in Italy but also abroad. As of September, both Italian producers and food retailers will be able to use Amazon Marketplace and sell their products on Amazon as third party vendors.
A report by the eCommerce B2C Observatory of the Milan Polytechnic reveals that the Italian online food sector (grocery and food & wine) grew by 27% in 2015 on the previous year and is worth over 460 million euros. (www.esmmagazine.com)
