GERMANY: Metro Group to modernize its logistics network in Germany | Progresiv
The German retailing group has announced plans to modernize its logistics in Germany to support repositioning of its cash and carry as well as hypermarkets operation. In place of current seven logistic centres, there will be three new, larger and modern (Velbert, Witten and Worms), as well as one extended location (Hamm). 
The new centres will be able to handle significantly higher volumes.
Affected employees will be offered jobs at new locations, where possible.
The new centres will be integrated into Metro Group’s logistics network during the period from early 2017 to mid-2018.
Total investments are expected to reach high double-digit euro millions range.
The Group’s strategy is to have better commercial alignment, improvement of product availability, optimisation of transport routes for store deliveries and support of delivery service. (www.kantarretailiq.com)
