Carrefour to use AI to optimise supply chain | Progresiv
Carrefour is set to use artificial intelligence (AI) to optimise its supply chain management. The retailer claims it is the first retailer in France to adopt the technology.
As part of its transformation plan, Carrefour will use Viya’s AI solution, developed by SAS, to improve its omnichannel distribution and inventory optimisation. The solution will collect and manage data from stores and warehouses to help predict demand and refine supplier orders. It will also allow Carrefour to develop tailor-made algorithms to meet specific needs.
The retailer said using AI will help to make teams “more agile by allowing them to integrate new working methods and continuously improve their forecasting processes”.
After an 18-month trial period, SAS Viya will initially be used for food products. Carrefour hopes to extend the solution to cover non-food products in the medium term. SAS and consultant firm Capgemini will support Carrefour throughout the deployment, offering technological and business expertise.
Franck Noël-Fontana, forecast director at Carrefour France, said, “The deployment of the SAS platform will help us turn the corner in optimising our supply chain. By freeing up time for teams, artificial intelligence will allow them to focus on developing differentiated forecasting strategies and better meeting customer expectations while reducing waste”.
