ITALY: Heinz sells baby food plant to local company | Progresiv
Italian food producer Newlat has completed the acquisition of a former Heinz baby food plant in Ozzano Taro, Parma. The deal includes a co-pack arrangement for Newlat to manufacture infant milks and nutrition products including the Kraft Heinz-owned Plasmon, Nipiol, Aproten, Dieterba and Bi-Aglut brands, which Kraft Heinz will continue to sell.
The acqusition will push Newlat’s annual revenues beyond 400 million euros – an increase of roughly 25% – Italian media were reporting earlier this month. Newlat’s owner, the Italian-Swiss entrepreneur Angelo Mastrolia, committed to keeping employment at the plant at current levels and said that around 10 million euros would be invested over the next few years.
Newlat had previously bought a pasta and bread substitutes factory from Nestlé, a milk and dairy products factory from former parent company Parmalat, and the dairy business Centrale del Latte di Salerno – all based inside Italy. (www.foodbev.com)
