How much did retail in Romania increase in the first three weeks of coronavirus | Progresiv
The spread of SARS-Cov-2 infections on the Romanian territory has led to significant increases in modern trade, the increases being visible both in the food sector and in the area of hygiene products.
In the first three weeks after the virus appeared on the Romanian market (February 23 - March 15), total sales of consumer goods (including the cigarettes segment) increased by 37.2% compared to the same period last year, according to Nielsen retail audit data. In the food category, sales increased by 42% during the indicated period, personal hygiene products reported an advance of 65.6%, while sales of home care products increased by 23.4% between February 23 - March 15 compared to the same period last year.
According to Nielsen data, the category that increased the most in total absolute value in these three weeks compared to the same period of the previous year, is oil, with a value advance of 107.8%, the growth peak being registered in week 9-15 March (240.8%).
Out of the top 15 categories in absolute growth, the products that recorded the highest percentage increase in volume in these three weeks are those for personal hygiene. The average advance reported is 266.4%, while the peak of growth was recorded in the week from 9 to 15 March and was 466.1%.
