GLOBAL: Online wine sales will be worth 10 billion dollars in 2020 – Rabobank | Progresiv
Online wine sales could grow nearly 12 % per year over the next 4 years, according to Rabobank's analysts. That means that the online wine trade should grow from 6 billion dollars now to 10 billion dollars per year in 2020.
Dutch Rabobank says first quarter online wine sales in the United Kingdom grew 11 %, while total wine sales only grew 3.5 %. A previous study also confirmed worldwide online wine sales increased 700 % since 2006.
From the bank's study, the growing online sales are mostly thanks to changing consumer behaviour: the current generations drink more wine and is more used to buying something online.
Analysts do warn that wine sellers have to do more than simply be present online to actually generate online sales: they will have to invest to make it more successful. One way is to use social media, but they can also offer the consumer several services to facilitate the choice of the perfect wine. (www.retaildetail.eu)
