GERMANY: Rewe group posts record turnover in 2015 | Progresiv
German retailer Rewe Group has posted its best operating results in the company's history, with revenue growth of 3.7% to 52.4 billion euros in the 2015 financial year.
The group, which incorporates trade and tourism companies, saw an EBITA increase of 12% to 587 million euros. Revenue rose by 2.6% in Germany and 6.8% abroad, adjusting for currency effects.
In its German retail segment, the Cologne-based company grew by 4.4% in its full-range stores, and by 10.6% in its medium-sized Rewe retailers. The external revenue of Rewe supermarkets (branches and partners) increased by 5.5%, compared with the previous year.
The group presented its as-yet-uncertified figures in Cologne this week. The annual profit for 2015 is estimated to have increased by around 22%, compared to the previous year, to 383 million euros.
"Firstly, we have benefited from the consumer behaviour of consumers in Germany, especially in the last three months of 2015. Secondly, our enormous investments in the continuous modernisation of our food-retail operations are paying off," said Alain Caparros, chief executive of Rewe Group.
"The revenue of our supermarkets has once again grown considerably stronger than the industry as a whole." (www.esmmagazine.com)
