Two years after the first announcement, Auchan opens the Obor store | Progresiv
More than two years after the official announcement, Auchan opened the store in Bucur Obor, in the Capital. This is one of the most important openings of the French retailer in recent years, the last hypermarket inauguration being in 2015. In the last four years, the retailer has focused on developing the proximity segment, both by taking over local retail chains and by signing a partnership with OMV Petrom, after which stores were opened in Petrom stations.
The new Auchan store has a sales area of approximately 2,300 square meters and a range that includes over 14,000 SKUs, covering both the food and non-food categories.
"We are pleased to announce the signing of the partnership with Bucur Obor SA, a partnership that will allow us to take another step in the development of our proximity trade. The Auchan supermarket offer will cover all the daily needs of our customers”, said in 2017 Ionut Ardeleanu, General Director of Auchan Retail Romania. Initially, the opening was planned to take place at the end of 2017.
The French group Auchan is present on the local market with over 50 stores in several formats: 33 hypermarkets, 3 supermarkets and 24 convenience stores under the MyAuchan brand. The retailer ended the financial year 2018 with a turnover of 5.4 billion lei, slightly higher than the previous year and a profit of 35 million lei, down by 53% compared to 2017.
