TURKEY: The Competition Authority approved Anadolu Group’s acquisition of Migros’ shares | Progresiv
According to the announcement released on the Turkish Public Disclosure Platform, Turkish Competition Authority approved Anadolu Group’s acquisition the share of 40.25% at Migros.
Yazıcılar Holding known as YAZICILAR who holds 68% stakes in Anadolu Groupwill carry out the purchase and according to the agreement signed by the parties, Anadolu Group will pay TL 1.86 billion corresponding to 700 million dollars to private equity firm BC Partners.
Making statement Tuncay Özilhan who is Chairman at Anadolu Group stressed that the group continues its investments on its 65th year and investing money to Migros is a part of their expanding strategy in retail sector. Also he underlined that Migros provides a great number of brands and products to its customers and it is an important thing.
Anadolu Group, according to the current numbers, is active in a wide range of industries like banking, energy, automotive and food in 18 countries with around 29.000 employees. Also the group has McDonald’s franchise rights in Turkey and operates around 1.000 retail stores so-called ‘Ekomini’.
The oldest retail operating of Turkey, Migros Türk was founded in 1954 as a joint venture of Swiss retailer Migros and Municipality of Istanbul. As a year of 1975, the retail brand was purchased by Koç Holding which is the one of the leading conglomerate in the country and then Koç Holding sold out 51% shares (2 billion Turkish Lira) of it to BC Parters.
