Tesco closes the distribution center in Poland and four more stores | Progresiv
The Tesco chain has informed its employees about the decision to close four stores and a distribution center located in Poznań. The British operator closed almost 100 stores in Poland, there was also information about the reduction of warehouse space used in the distribution center in Gliwice. 
These changes are part of our work to improve the performance of operations in Poland to the levels achieved by Tesco in other Central European countries. Our priority now is to offer adequate support to employees of closed institutions - said Martin Behan, Managing Director of Tesco in Poland, quoted in the communiqué.
Tesco stores to be closed are located in Nowy Sącz (Prażmowskiego St.), Ruda Śląska (1 Maja St.), Starogard Gdanski (Zblewska St.) and Olsztyn St. (Pstrowskiego St.).
Tesco also decided to close one of its distribution centers in Poznań and to continue operations in the other two distribution centers. It is worth recalling that the modern warehouse in Komorniki near Poznań started in 2016. Its launch was supposed to be a signal that the British operator is serious about further development on the Polish market.
The warehouse near Poznań was responsible for deliveries of 12,000. product lines to almost 120 stores located in western and northern Poland. In the new warehouse, ultimately, it was to find a job for 400 people from the Wielkopolska province. The building of the new Tesco distribution center was built on 10 ha, and the warehouse and office space alone occupies 30,800 sq m.
Tesco currently manages a network of around 350 hyper- and supermarkets in Poland. At the peak of development, the British operator managed a network of almost 450 branches in our country, and in the whole region about 1000 stores in various formats. (www.wiadomoscihandlowe.pl)
