SPAR to close part of its stores in Russia | Progresiv
The largest franchisee of the Dutch SPAR chain in Russia, TD Intertorg, intends to restructure and close part of the stores. Several counteragent companies are going to file a bankruptcy petition in court, according to materials of seven statements published on the Fedresurs portal.
The debt of TD Intertorg to suppliers in January-early December 2019 amounts to 2.9 billion rubles. Among the applicants with the requirement to collect the debt there are producers of both meat, dairy and vegetable products, as well as suppliers of drinks and cigarettes. For example, the largest SPAR franchisee in Russia owes debt to the Heineken brewing company.
Co-owner of TD Intertorg Mushvig Abdullayev said that until mid-January 2020 the company will carry out restructuring, including the closure of some stores, in particular in Karelia, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk. How many stores in total it is planned to close, he did not inform.
According to RBC St. Petersburg sources, about 40 points will be closed. Two other sources of the publication claim that the number of liquidated stores will exceed one hundred.
TD Intertorg is the largest SPAR franchisee in Russia in terms of the number of stores. Under its management, as of October 2019, 184 supermarkets and 11 SPAR hypermarkets, 249 Family supermarkets and 8 Idea supermarkets were operating. (www.retail.ru)
