SLOVENIA: Mercator builds 100 million euro logistics and distribution center in Ljubljana | Progresiv
Mercator is preparing its first big investment since it became a part of the portfolio of Ivica Todoric's Agrokor concern. Namely, it is going to have a logistics and distribution center built.
As the management of Mercator noted, a 114,636 square meter land lot in the location of the freight railway station Ljubljana-Moste was bought for that purpose from Slovenian Railways for 17 million euros.
President of the Mercator Managing Board Toni Balazic points out it is a big development and strategic project that has been in consideration for the last ten years or so, especially after last year's fire in the storage space on the Zalog site.
The new logistics center will have a surface area of 88,000 square meters, and the Managing Board of Mercator plans to invest about 100 million euros in its construction. According to current projections, foundations could be laid in 2017, while the facility should become fully operational in late 2018 at the latest. (www.ekapija.com)
