RUSSIA: Government may ease food import ban | Progresiv
The Russian government has indicated that it could ease restrictions on the import of food products into the country, in a move that will keenly followed by manufacturers in the EU.
Last year, Russia banned food imports from the US and several EU countries in response to financial sanctions placed on it by those countries. Local media reports have now cited Agriculture Minister Nikolai Fyodorov as saying the ban may be lifted for products from some countries, naming Greece, Hungary and Cyprus as potential initial beneficiaries.
Fyodorov was cited as saying: “We are actively investigating to see what civilised opportunities there are to their proposals. If we help them, we would not want to create problems for them in their relations with Brussels.” (www.kamcity.com)
