Romanian beer market remained stable in 2019 | Progresiv
The local beer market was stable last year, with a volume growth of just 0,4% to a total of 16.7m hectoliters, Romanian Brewers' Association (ARB) says.
The number of beer producers grew from 56 in 2018 to 68, while lager continued to be the preffered sortiment, with a 93% market share. Beer mixes and flavored beers made up 3% of the total, while specialties (including dark, ale, and others) made up just 2,2% of the market. Alcohol-free beers were chosen by 1,7% of customers. In terms of sales, mixed and flavored beers grew by 32,5%.
Market structure by package validated recent trends, with consumers mainly choosing bottles and cans.
Over the course of 2019, imports saw o small decline of 0.04m hectoliters, reaching a total of 0.5m hectoliters. Local beer market continues to show its national character, as local production covers 97% of total consumption.
