ROMANIA: Xavier Piesvaux to leave Mega Image | Progresiv
Xavier Piesvaux leaves Mega Image after nearly 10 years in the company - during which time he led the largest retail expansion project of proximity retail.
Xavier Piesvaux is a manager with 25 years of experience in retail. He came to Romania and in Delhaize Group’s team in 2006, when he was appointed Operations Manager of Mega Image. At that time, the chain had only 19 supermarkets. In 2009 he was promoted to general director and also then the retailer launched a very ambitious expansion plan, with about 100 store openings a year. The manager announced it will leave Delhaize Group but not yet disclosed what professional projects he prepares for the future.
Mega Image has about 8,000 employees and over 400 stores, plus the 1,000 employees of the company's partners that entered the ) Shop & Go "Operational Partnership" system (managerial franchise). In 2014 the retailer reported a turnover of around 635 million euros (2815.8 million lei), up by 20% compared to 2013 and a stagnating net profit of 12.5 million euros (55.7 million lei).
Piesvaux's successor at the head of Mega Image is a manager of Greek origin, Vassilis Stavrou, with great experience in the Belgian group Delhaize, including the South East European region.
