ROMANIA: Seafood market could reach 37 million euros this year | Progresiv
Seafood sales will report an advance of 5% in 2016, reaching a value of 37 million euros, based on the growth of purchasing power which increased the Romanians' interest for healthy food, according to Romfood Trading, one of the main players on the Romanian market of importers and distributors of fish and seafood as well as developer of Alfredo Seafood brand. 
Regarding the products sold, shrimps lead the ranking, accounting for 30.9% of total sales achieved in 2015. They are followed by clams (16.4%), calamari (13.8%) and squid (8.8%). The ranking is maintained also in terms of value: shrimps total 51.4% of the market, followed by clams (14.2%), calamari (9.7%) and octopus (6.9%), according to the report released by Alfredo Seafood developer.
Romfood Trading is one of the leading importers and distributors of fish and seafood in Romania. The marketing of products is made through Alfredo Seafood brand launched in 2013. The brand holds 23% of the branded seafood market. However, bulk and private-label sales are dominant in volume in the domestic market, 500 tonnes of seafood being sold last year.
