ROMANIA: Record growth for sales of food and beverages in February | Progresiv

Trade of food, beverages and tobacco increased in February by 31.3% based on gross sales and by 26.3% according to the number of working days and seasonality compared to the same month of 2015, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS). This is the highest monthly increase reported in the last year compared with results from the same month of last year.

Compared to January, sales of food, beverages and tobacco increased by 0.1% as gross series and by 0.6% depending on the number of working days and seasonality.

An important increase is noticed if we are talking about January and February compared with the same period of 2015. During the first two months of this year, the trade of food, drinks and tobacco registered an advance of 29.3% as gross series and of 26.2% depending on seasonality compared to January-February 2015.

Overall, retail trade, excluding motor vehicle sales, rose in February compared with the same month last year by 21.8% as gross series and by 18.4% as adjusted series. In the first two months, retail trade increased by 18.7% based on gross sales and by 16.9% depending on seasonality and the number of working days.
