ROMANIA: Only two retailers opened stores in January | Progresiv
Profi set the tone of openings in 2015, inaugurating four stores in January, in Aiud, Craiova, Calarasi and Suceava, three of them in standard format and one in City format. The chain owned by Polish investment fund Enterprise Investors thus reached 371 units.
The second retailer that resumed expansion from the first month of the year is Kaufland. The Germans opened the store located on the site of former Grivita brewery in Bucharest, an inauguration which was originally scheduled for the end of 2015 and subsequently postponed. This is the 11th Kaufland hypermarket in the capital and the 108th which the retailer operates nationwide.
In total, the modern retail universe was enriched with five units in January, a number below that of the same month of 2015, when six stores had been opened under three banners: Penny Market, Profi and Shop & Go.
