ROMANIA: Modern retail openings in September | Progresiv
In September, international retail chains continued investing in expansion, 22 business units being opened nationwide.
Profi continued to lead in September the retail expansion map. The chain owned by Polish investment fund Enterprise Investors had 15 openings in the first month of autumn.
Thus, Profi commercial reached 454 commercial units, of which 307 operate in Standard format, 87 in City format and 54 under the Profi Loco banner. Present in 224 localities in all counties and Bucharest, Profi is the retail chain with the largest coverage in Romania.
Mega Image, part of Ahold Delhaize, had a better month compared to August, when it opened only two stores. In September, the Belgians continued to invest in expanding the proximity chain and opened four more units. With these openings, Mega Image reached a total of 488 stores under the brands Mega Image (218), Shop & Go (268) and Gusturi Romanesti (Romanian Tastes) (2). The retailer is also present in the online segment through a partnership with emag.ro platform.
German retailer Lidl continued to invest in expanding the local chain and inaugurated on 29 September the 23rd store in the Capital, the 198th nationwide.
Rewe Romania also continued the expansion of Penny Market chain and opened its 180th store, in Magurele (Ilfov county).
Selgros Cash & Carry Romania opened on September 30, the second business unit in compact format, in Alba Iulia. With this opening the retailer operates 21 units nationwide and also checked its first store in Alba Iulia.
