ROMANIA: Modern retail openings in March | Progresiv
March reported a slower pace of expansion for international retail chains, only six new commercial units being inaugurated. Thus, compared to the same month last year, the number of openings was halved. 
The first position among the most expansive retailers is occupied by Profi which opened three new stores, meaning half of the inaugurations in March. In second place is equally, Lidl, dm drogerie markt and Penny Market, each with a new location opened.
The inauguration leader of March, Profi, opted for the Standard format with the opening of the three new stores. Through these openings, Profi reached a chain of 382 business units in 181 cities.
German retailer Lidl, part of Schwarz group, checked in March just one new opening. With the inauguration of the first store in the city of Radauti, Suceava County, the retailer now operates 194 stores nationwide. This year Lidl announced plans to open 10 units, its growth rate being higher compared to 2015 when only eight stores were opened.
Dm drogerie markt store chain inaugurated in late March a new commercial unit in Shopping City Timisoara, reaching six business units in Timisoara and 80 nationwide. This is the first opening for the retailer this year, while the target for 2016 is of 5 stores.
Penny Market, part of the German group Rewe, inaugurated in March one new business unit, in Oradea. With this opening, the national chain of Penny Market stores reached 175 units.
