ROMANIA: Modern retail openings in August | Progresiv
International retailers did not take any "holiday" in August, when the number of opened units increased compared to the previous month. Thus, while in July were opened 17 stores, in August there was a slight increase in the number of units opened nationwide - 20. 
Like in the previous month, Profi was the champion of expansion, the retailer opening a total of 15 stores, of which eight are operated Loco format, four under the City banner and three in Standard format. With these openings, Profi currently reached 439 stores nationwide and targets to reach 500 units until the end of the year.
Mega Image also continued to expand in August and opened two new supermarkets in Bucharest. With these openings, Mega Image's chain reached a total of 484 stores nationwide.
Lidl also marked one new opening in the Capital, the store being located just 500 meters from another Lidl unit. The German retailer reached a chain of 197 operational units.
The last month of summer was a good omen for Kaufland as well, who opened its first store in Mangalia, which is also the first hypermarket in the city. With this inauguration, the German hypermarket chain reached the threshold of 110 stores in Romania.
Penny Market also continued its expansion, inaugurating its first commercial unit in the town of Faget, Timis County. With this opening, the retailer reached a chain of 178 business units operated at national level.
