ROMANIA: Mega Image chain could exceed 500 stores in 2015 | Progresiv
Mega Image chain maintains its pace of expansion in 2015, according to statements of Adrian Nicolaescu, marketing director of the company. In addition, the retailer will open two Mega Image Concept Store supermarkets and two Gusturi Romanesti stores in the Capital. Thus, at the end of the year Mega Image may exceed the threshold of 500 operational units, considering the fact that last year were inaugurated 114 units, and the end of 2014 the chain operated 410 stores under Mega Image, Shop & Go, AB Cool Food and Mega Drive banners. 
"Our focus is mainly on the Shop & Go chain expansion, but based on space availability we will also open Mega Image supermarkets, focusing further on the Capital. We analyze every opportunity for expansion, both direct and through acquisitions", said Adrian Nicolaescu.
Regarding the online segment, the retailer plans to increase the number of dedicated delivery points. "We will increase the number of pick-up points because it’s an important asset of our business model. The assortment of the virtual supermarket includes the vast majority of products also found in the Concept Stores. Last month, for example, 95% of the products in the Mega Image catalog were found in the virtual supermarket. Thus, customers can order and pick up the goods that they don’t find in the stores", said the manager.
There are also plans to develop the delivery service for fresh and frozen products for Districts 2,4 and 5 - areas that currently do not ship products in these categories (fish, cold cuts, meat, eggs, milk, bread).
Two new Shop&Go locations
Mega Image announced the opening of two new stores under the Shop & Go banner, in Bucharest and Ilfov county.
The Shop & Go unit in the Capital is located at No. 14 Barca Street, Bl. M161, District 5 and has a sales area of about 122 square meters. The store opened in Ilfov is located in Chiajna, at No. 94 Eroului Street and has a sales room of about 100 sqm.
