ROMANIA: Kaufland launches a project to support local producers | Progresiv
Kaufland Romania launches a program to support Romanian producers of fruits and vegetables to obtain international certificates for quality and food safety, called Global GAP (Good Agricultural Practices).
The program initiated by Kaufland Romania, in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), enables manufacturers, after obtaining certificates, to export the Romanian products anywhere in the world.
Besides the support and advice offered within the program, the retailer will support 15 of the most eligible Romanian producers - Kaufland partners – by paying the full costs of the program.
This will take place throughout 2017 in five stages, which consist of various trainings, soil and water analysis, building personalized action plans, implemented and evaluated.
"Ensuring product quality, the oportuniy of export anywhere in the world and the guarantee that any retailer will take the full order are just some of the benefits the new Kaufland Romania program brings to Romanian farmers. In the future, we intend to provide assistance to a larger number of producers who will benefit from the expertise, quality standards and competence of Kaufland Romania", said Ionut Parfente, Executive Director Vegetables and Fruits Procurement, Kaufland Romania.
Kaufland Romania operates a chain of 110 hypermarkets. In 2015 the company reported a turnover of 9.2 billion lei, up by 15% over the previous year, and this year the company's representatives stated that the objective is to keep the company on plus, without communicating the growth pace.
