ROMANIA: Dr. Oetker acquired frozen pastry brand “Morarita” | Progresiv
In early December of this year the Dr. Oetker Romania bought “Morarita” brand from Panovia Prod, operating in Oltenita, Calarasi county, thus entering a new market segment. Dr. Oetker is at its third acquisition since entering the local market in 2015 after it acquired the Alex brand of ingredients for pastry and desserts, egg dyes and preservatives and in 2007 took over Inedit Food, which was active in the soy based products area. 
Morarita brand is active in the frozen pastry category on the Romanian market since 2004, offering a range of products that includes such items as sheets of pie, pastry dough, mini-pates, buttered croissants, salty pastry and strudels with various fillings.
The frozen pastry market is estimated at 14 million euros just in retail and products addressing to the end consumer and the dynamic in recent years has been positive, but modest. The main players in this market are Unibel Nord, Orkla Foods, Alpin 57 Lux and Macromex.
German company Dr. Oetker is active in Romania since 1998 when it took over the Regal Corporation company. Four years later the producer opened a production unit near Curtea de Arges. Dr. Oetker has a portfolio of over 400 products in categories such as ingredients for cakes, powder desserts, preservative for fruits and vegetables, frozen pizza & snacks.
In 2015, Dr. Oetker reported to the Ministry of Finance a turnover of about 300 million lei and a profit of 24.3 million lei, both indicators having increased over the previous year.
