ROMANIA: Doncafe producer sales, on minus after two years of growth | Progresiv
Strauss Romania coffee producer, controlled by Israeli group Strauss, reported sales of 212 million lei in the first nine months of 2016, down by 2.3% compared to the same period of 2015, according to financial data published by the company. And in the third quarter, sales declined by 15.8% to 68 million lei (15 million euros), the first decrease reported by the company after two years of growth. 
"The decline in sales in local currency reflects a decrease in volumes and is caused primarily by reducing customs duties on imports of green coffee, which reduced the cost of raw materials and allowed cheaper products" reads the financial report.
Shekels, Strauss Coffee Romania sales fell by 4.2% in the first nine months and 17.2% in the third quarter.
At group level, Strauss Coffee reported in the first nine months of 2016 sales of 2.6 billion shekels, up by 2.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Israeli group Strauss Coffee is present in Romania since 1994 and has a production unit in Bucharest. In September 2014, Strauss Coffee has completed the transaction thrpugh which took over Amigo instant coffee brand, sold mainly in Romania, from Cia Iguacu De Café Soluvel, for 20 million dollars.
