ROMANIA: Delhaize could reach one billion euros in sales in 2018 | Progresiv
Mea Image, the supermarket chain owned by Delhaize Group in Romania, plans to keep its expansion pace with 70-90 new openings in the next years. If the retailer keeps its expansion pace, The Belgian retailer will reach the one billion euros sales target in 2018. 
Delhaize reported in financial year 2015 a double-digit growth in turnover in Romania, according to preliminary data released by the company. At regional level, the company's revenue last year reported an advance of 10.2% compared to 2014, reaching 3.4 billion euros at identical exchange rates.
"The advance was supported by double-digit sales growth in Romania and solid growth in Greece and Serbia. In addition, a significant contribution had the store chain expansion in Romania and Greece", according to the company. Regarding the comparable sales, the company reported a 3.5% advance.
Also in Q4 Delhaize’s revenue in Southeast Europe were on plus, reporting an increase of 13.5% over the same period of 2014, reaching 942 million euros. Sales in comparable terms were robust, reaching 7.8%.
In Romania, Mega Image ended 2015 with 471 commercial units operated under the brands Mega Image (214), Shop & Go (253), AB Cool Food (1) Gusturi Romanesti (Romanian Tastes) (2) and also a platform for online commerce. In the financial year 2014 the company recorded in Romania a turnover of 2.81 billion lei.
