ROMANIA: Carrefour’s strategy for the supermarket format after the integration of Billa | Progresiv
Along with the integration of the Billa stores, Carrefour plans to further invest in expanding the chain of supermarkets. 
"We are constantly expanding. Besides the acquisition of Billa units, we plan to invest in expanding the chain of supermarkets. The plan is to maintain the opening pace that we had in previous years", said for Progresiv Andreea Mihai, Director of Marketing&Communication, PR&Solidarity, Commercial Dynamic&Pricing Carrefour Romania.
Since the beginning of the year and until now Carrefour has opened five supermarkets, so that by the end of the year will be opened at least 15 more Market units, if the retailer will maintain its pace of 20 new stores opened annually.
Regarding the Billa stores, Carrefour will start remodeling in early October, and until the end of 2016, all 86 supermarkets will operate under the Carrefour Market banner.
Carrefour owns 281 stores nationwide including 30 Carrefour hypermarkets, 111 Market supermarkets, 86 Billa stores, 43 Express convenience stores, 10 Contact proximity stores and an online store: www.carrefour-online.ro. The French have concluded the financial year 2015 with a turnover of 6.2 billion lei, a result which ranks them second in top of retailers in 2015, according to turnover.
