ROMANIA: Borsec brand reached an annual volume of 350 million liters | Progresiv
Borsec mineral water, which celebrates 210 years of bottling industry, has reached an annual production of 350 million liters and a market share of 26% in volume - according to Romaqua Group manufacturer, citing data from research company Market Vektor.
In 2015, the group has bottled a total of over 500 million liters of mineral water, soft drinks and beer, and reported sales of 632 million lei. Budgeted turnover for 2016 is 650 million lei.
"We hardly reached the rate of 31.7% (in value, according to research company Market Vektor) and we intend to stick to this position and win new percentages. For this, we continuously invest in bringing technology to date. For example, since 1998 when we launched the first bottled PET mineral water Borsec we have reduced by 30% the plastic bottle grammage”, said Radu Lazaroiu, Managing Director of Romaqua Group, at the anniversary conference Borsec 210 years. He also said that in the 18 years of privately held investments were made about 220 million euros, mainly in technology. The company was privatized in 1998 and currently controlled by two shareholders, Octavian Cretu and Nicolae Palfi.
The manufacturer currently has five factories in Borsec (Harghita county), Stanceni (Mures county), Busteni (Prahova county), Lancram (Alba county) and Bucharest. The latest of these was inaugurated in 2008 in Alba and produces beer under the brands Albacher, Dorfer and Mühlbacher. Last year it produced 100 million liters (1 million hectoliters) of beer. Romaqua Group portfolio also includes mineral waters Aquatique and Stanceni and juices Giusto.
Asked about future plans, Lazaroiu said that it is not considered yet a construction of new factories on a medium-term, such as the next 3-5 years.
