ROMANIA: Billa Romania’s sales rose by 4% last year | Progresiv
Billa Romania reported last year a slight increase in turnover (4%), to 1.41 billion lei (317 million euros). And the net result of the retailer rose by 7.6% to 2.34 million lei (528,000 euros), according to the 2014 balance sheet submitted by the company at the Trade Register Office.
“2014 was a year with many challenges, but the bottom line is we have achieved all the objectives we have set”, said Sabin Fane, Marketing Director of Billa chain.
Billa, which entered the Romanian market in 1999, opened just five supermarkets last year, reaching 85 stores on the Romanian market. According to the company representative, the openings in 2014 had little impact on the turnover, given the reduced sales area of those stores.
The supermarkets chain is controlled by German group Rewe, which also owns in Romania the discount stores Penny Market and XXL Mega Discount.
According to market sources, the Rewe group wants to sell the Billa supermarkets in Romania and Bulgaria. For the sale of the Romanian chain the German retailer held talks with Delhaize group, which owns Mega Image chain, as well as with Carrefour.
