ROMANIA: Auchan wants to enter further in the city center with City XS format | Progresiv
Auchan retailer wants to continue developing its Romanian hypermarkets chain, both in classic format as well as Auchan City, through which it wants to get closer to the center of the cities with an even smaller format: City XS, of 3,000-4,000 square meters.
“Regarding our future development, we will continue either by the classic stores that we have, respectively the City format, of 5,000 square meters or even smaller City stores, XS type, for entering further into the city center. The latter is a proximity hypermarket format of 3,000-4,000 square meters that we are studying at the moment, which would make things a little different from what proximity currently offers through supermarkets and discount stores”, said Tiberius Danetiu, Marketing Director of Auchan Romania, at Progresiv Conference in Sinaia, 15th edition.
Currently, the smallest hypermarkets on the Romanian market are operated by German discount retailer Kaufland, which have an average selling area of 2,000-3,000 square meters.
Auchan’s representative also said that the retailer is studying the option to enter the e-commerce segment, which will implement only when the pattern is clear and if they’re sure that it is safe, functional and profitable.
