ROMANIA: Auchan hypermarkets reported sales of 4 billion lei in 2014 | Progresiv
The cumulated turnover of the firms through which French group Auchan operates its hypermarket chain on the Romanian market (Auchan Romania and real,- Hypermarket Romania) amounted to 4.073 billion lei (916 million euros). Auchan’s sales target for 2014 was one billion euros. 
The French group operates 32 hypermarkets through Auchan Romania (31 at the end of 2014) and registered under real, - Hypermarket Romania company remained only the Auchan store in AFI Palace Cotroceni shopping center in the Capital. At the same time, on real, - Hypermarket Romania were also accounted the sales of the 13 Real hypermarkets before being rebranded by Auchan in the first four months of last year.
In 2013, the year of the takeover by the group Auchan hypermarkets of the 20 Real hypermarkets from Metro group, the two companies had aggregate turnover of 4.574 billion lei (1.035 billion euros).
Auchan Romania had last year losses of 61.7 million lei, decreasing by 90.5 million lei in 2013, while real, - Hypermarket Romania turned to profit with a net result of 4.4 mlioane lei, compared with losses of 303.8 million lei in 2013.
The total number of employees of the two companies, just over 10,000, remained the same in 2014 compared to 2013.
French group Auchan and German group Metro reached at the end of 2012 an agreement for the sale of Metro’s hypermarket division (Real) in Romania, Poland, Ukraine and Russia. In Romania, where Auchan acquired only 20 of the 24 hypermarkets, the transaction was completed in September 2013, after the agreement given by the Competition Council. Auchan has paid a total of 216 million euros for the 20 Real hypermarkets (183 million euro) and seven commercial galleries acquired from Metro.
