Romania, again in the top of best performing countries for Carrefour | Progresiv
French retailer Carrefour continues to grow on the local market, reporting for the third quarter of this year an advance of 7.4% compared to the same period of 2018, up to 561 million euros. In like-for-like terms (excluding new store openings), the retailer increased its business by 2.8%, which is the second most important growth rate at European level, after Poland.
Thus, in France, the most important market at European level, the retailer reported a turnover of 9.76 billion euros, down by 0.9% in terms like-for-like, the best dynamics being in the convenience segment (+ 2.7%), while the hypermarket division confirms the downward trend of this format, reporting a decline of 3.6%.
Regarding the company's performance in the European region, excluding France, Carrefour reported revenues of 5.83 billion euros, the markets that were on positive trend in the third quarter being Romania, Poland and Spain. In Poland, the French retailer reported 523 million euros, below the level reported for the local market.
At group level, Carrefour reported revenues of 20.19 billion euros in Q3, up by 2.2%, respectively, 2.3% in like-for-like terms. The largest advance was reported in the Latin America region (+12.8% like-for-like), Argentina being by far the best performing country (+58.7%).
At the end of Q3, Carrefour operated 12,067 stores, of which over 350 locations are on the local market.
