ROMANIA: 17% advance for food volumes after VAT reduction – Nielsen | Progresiv
A recently published study by market research company Nielsen Romania indicates a 17% increase in sales volumes in the categories impacted by the VAT reduction to 9%, between 1 and 14 June 2015 compared to the same period last year. The survey is conducted on 33 categories of food and non-alcoholic beverages, based on sales of large grocery stores chains (IKA) audited by Nielsen.
"Prices dropped on average by 11% in the monitored categories, the retailers together with manufacturers kepping their promise towards consumers. The results were immediate, the most dynamic product categories being those where prices were mostly lowered. For coffee, for example, an average price reduction of 15% of the products led to an increase in volumes by approximately 25% compared to the same period last year (1-14 June). Other highly dynamic categories were meat, cheese, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks", said Nielsen Romania representatives.
With the publication of this data, Nielsen Romania announced the launch of the Price Monitor, a special tool to monitor prices in IKA segment. It enables suppliers and retailers of fast moving consumer goods to weekly analyze, in a very short time, how are impacted the most important 100 products (Food Basket) in the most purchased categories in the food segment and the direct impact on their own products as well as their competition’s, in modern trade.
