Real to close seven hypermarkets after sale to SCP | Progresiv
Even before the sale to the Russian investor SCP is completed, the supermarket chain Real is setting the course for the closure of seven branches.
According to information from the German Press Agency, the stores in Bamberg and Deggendorf, in Bad Sobernheim in Rhineland-Palatinate and in Papenburg in Lower Saxony should close their doors at the end of the year. The shops in Augsburg and Wildau near Berlin are to follow at the end of March next year, as will the branch in Rheine in North Rhine-Westphalia by the end of June 2021. A total of 650 employees are affected. The Funke Group's newspapers had previously reported on this.
The closings were discussed with the future real owners, dpa learned. Shortly after signing the purchase contract with Metro, the future real owner SCP announced that it wanted to close around 30 branches due to a lack of future prospects.
The rest of the chain is said to be broken. The majority of the 276 Real stores are to be sold to competitors such as Kaufland, Globus or Edeka. Only a core of 50 branches are to be continued under the Real name for another 24 months. (www.zeit.de)
