POLAND: Polish Competition Authority approves Auchan acquisition | Progresiv
The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKIK) has approved the sale of eight Auchan hypermarkets to Schiever Polska and the takeover of two hypermarkets by Auchan, which are currently owned jointly by Auchan and Schiever, the watchdog announced. Both concentrations are associated with the implementation of the conditions imposed by the Authority in last year's decision approving the takeover of Real by Auchan Poland.
As previously reported, the UOKIK agreed to the transaction and Auchan Poland also pledged to sell eight hypermarkets. The first transaction will involve the sale by the Auchan hypermarket 8: Bialystok, Bielsko-Biala, Czeladzi, Legnica, Rzeszów, Sosnowiec, Szczecin and Wałbrzych. Their owner is to be Anciens Etablissmements Schiever Georges et Fils, based in France. The company is the parent company of the international capital group Schiever and specializes in large-format stores, shopping malls, supermarkets and specialty stores.
In the second concentration of Auchan will be able to take over from Schiever Poland two hypermarkets located in Legnica and Wałbrzych, which until then had been jointly controlled by Auchan Poland and Schiever Poland.
Auchan Poland belongs to the international group Auchan, involved mainly in the area of retail sales of fast moving consumer goods through a chain of hypermarkets and supermarkets in many countries, including Poland. (www.retailnet.pl)
