P&G to prepare a new large investment in a greenfield project in Urlati | Progresiv
American giant Procter & Gamble intends to open a new factory in Urlati, Prahova County, where it will produce capsule-shaped detergents under the Fairy brand, according to market sources.
The company is currently awaiting approval of the area urban plan, according to Urlati City Hall authorities. "We know the company's intention to build a new factory, more details we do not have at present, just waiting for the PUZ to be obtained", Marian Machitescu, Mayor of Urlati, told Progresiv.
Contacted by Progresiv, P&G officials did not want to comment on the information. "We do not comment on rumors or speculation".
P&G opened in 2010 a hair care product factory after an initial 100 million dollars investment, which has since become an export center. There are about 300 people working in the Urlati shampoo factory and 90% of the volumes are delivered to foreign markets. This is where Head & Shoulders and Pantene shampoos are made for large markets in the region, such as Russia and Turkey. The land on which the factory is built has an area of 25 hectares, the unit actually occupying 6 hectares.
In the new production unit, which will be built from scratch, dishwashing detergent capsules are to be produced under the Fairy brand.
Procter & Gamble owned a detergent factory in Timisoara, which it sold to the German Falli Group in 2014. In Timisoara were made laundry detergents, fabric care products and dishwash detergents, Procter & Gamble purchasing this plant from the Romanian state in 1995, after which it modernized and expanded it, most of the production going to export.
The American company Procter & Gamble is one of the most important players in the consumer goods market. In 2017, the company reported 65.1 billion dollars in business, at the same level as in 2016.
