US giant Procter & Gamble obtained a state aid of 29.05 million lei, an amount that will finance the construction of the new plant in Urlati, Prahova county, where capsule-type laundry detergents will be produced.
The construction of the new production unit is set to begin this month, with the estimated start time for production being early 2021, according to company statements. As a result of this investment, approximately 120 new jobs will be created in the first two years of factory operation.
P&G is one of the seven companies that have signed financing agreements with the Ministry of Finance, after which the projects, with a total value of 620.9 million lei, will benefit from state aid with a cumulative value of 194.3 million lei.
P&G opened in 2010 the hair care products factory following an initial investment of 100 million dollars, a unit that has since become an export center. About 300 people work in the shampoo factory in Urlati and 90% of the volumes are delivered to foreign markets. Head & Shoulders and Pantene shampoos are produced here for large markets in the region, such as Russia and Turkey. The land on which the factory is built has an area of 25 hectares, the unit actually occupying 6 hectares.
Procter & Gamble owned a detergent factory locally, in Timisoara, which it sold to the German group Falli in 2014. In Timisoara, laundry detergents, fabric care products and dishwashers were produced, Procter & Gamble acquiring this factory from the Romanian state in 1995, after which it modernized and expanded it, much of the production going to export.
