Orders on eMAG Supermarket increased 10 times | Progresiv
"Orders on eMAG Supermarket have increased in the last weeks 10 times from the daily average and we expect a constantly rising evolution in the next period. Given the context and demand beyond expectations, we have already taken steps to shorten the two-day delivery time”, says Iulian Stanciu, eMAG CEO.
He details that the supermarket is operated through a strong partnership with Mega Image retailer, and works very well. In the last weeks eMAG has increased the maximum the space allocated for storage, but also the merchandise stocks.
Currently, the delivery time is 10 days, but as the products (less fresh-food) will be moved from the Mega Image warehouses to the eMAG warehouses, the delivery time will decrease. The manager says it will be possible to process up to 1,000 orders per day from the supermarket.
In the past weeks, eMAG management has noticed a change in customer behavior. The fact that many now work from home and that, with the closure of schools, students learn from home, has led to significant increases in certain categories that in the past were predominantly purchased offline.
"We have followed the evolution of the situation in China and Italy, we have ensured that we have stocks and we have optimized our flows so that we can meet the demand", says Iulian Stanciu.
On average, total eMAG sales are up 15% compared to last year. The biggest increases were registered in categories such as personal protection, sanitary and cleaning & disinfection products - ten times more than the similar period of last year - but also in categories such as child & baby care, personal care. Also, in some subcategories, such as baby food and diapers, coffee, soap, shampoo, the increase was from double up to five times compared to the same period last year.
Regarding the evolution of sales after the end of the pandemic, the manager is of the opinion that the products in the category of health & cleanliness will maintain their growth.
"We expect that this global health problem will lead to long-term changes in customer behavior. In the last weeks we have registered a higher demand for personal care items and baby items. One of our features is adaptability, which means we will look for and identify the best solutions to be close to our customers”, details eMAG CEO.
If, on average, 40% of customers paid by card before this crisis, now the percentage has increased to 60%. In Bucharest, 70% of users now opt for card payment.
"Payment with card is preferable both from the point of view of security, but also from the point of view of the health risks, so we will continue to recommend this method of payment. Many of our clients have followed the recommendations of the Ministry of Health to avoid using cash, which could transmit the virus”, adds Iulian Stanciu.
